A Comprehensive Guide to Datasets, Distributions, & Essential Insights into Data Elements

Description
In this course, we will delve into the details of datasets and distributions, as well as cover the essentials of data elements.

What is a dataset?
A dataset is used to record information about different high-level data assets, such as databases, reports, or dashboards. Because data assets can be composed of different pieces, a dataset can record all of these as a single grouping metadata object.
A data set can have multiple groups and distributions.

What is a distribution?
A distribution is used to record 'physical' level information about how distributions can be useful when data is recorded by different areas or at different times. For example, each table in a database can be documented as a distribution.
A distribution can have multiple data elements, each contributing to the overall composition of the dataset.

What is a data element?
Data elements play a role in defining the meaning of each column in a table and connecting data sets by using common data elements.
A data element consists of a data element concept and a value domain. The data element concept, in turn, comprises an object class and a property.

Learning Outcomes:

• Understand the role of ISO 11179 Standard in data asset documentation.
• Gain an overview of Datasets, Distributions, and Data Elements.
• Learn to create and link datasets and distributions.
• Explore how to link data elements to a distribution and how this improves data comparison.
• Understand the structure of an item page and its related content.
• Learn how to clone a distribution and when this is useful for data capture over time.
• Develop proficiency in searching for metadata items to find data faster.
• Learn how to document columns in datasets using path names and data elements.
• Performing a bulk upload for a dataset.
